Bridge engineering tools

Not every engineering check needs a full structural model.

Sometimes, all you need is a quick, reliable answer.

Built for everyday bridge engineering checks, SpanWise simplifies beam analysis, while STMSmartDesign streamlines pier cap design using strut-and-tie models. Less time modelling, more time engineering.

Tools

Engineering tools, without the complexity.

Purpose-built applications designed to simplify everyday structural engineering calculations, streamline independent design checks, and make results easier to visualize and verify.

Girders and spansPreview

SpanWise

Analyse a continuous girder without building a full model.

Enter the spans, supports and loads, and the girder draws itself as you type. One click gives the reactions, the shear, moment and deflection diagrams, and where the maximums occur. Pro mode adds load cases, load combinations and a truck you can drag along the girder.

Scope
Simply supported, cantilever and continuous beams, with several supports and overhangs
Input
Spans, supports, section properties (E, I), and point, distributed, moment, thermal, axial and support deformation loads; load cases, combinations and moving trucks in Pro
Output
Reactions, shear, moment and deflection diagrams, and the maximums with their critical locations
SpanWise · demo model
SpanWise output: beam schematic with reactions, and the shear force, bending moment and deflection diagrams for a two-span girder with overhangs.
Reactions, shear, moment and deflection for a two-span girder with overhangs.
Pier caps and deep beamsPreview

STMSmartDesign

Design a pier cap with a strut-and-tie model, from loads to calc package.

Enter the geometry and loads, and the strut-and-tie truss draws itself as you type, with no node by node modelling. Adjust it by selecting nodes, run the AASHTO LRFD BDS checks on struts, ties and nodal zones, design the reinforcement, and see the typical section with every bar placed.

Scope
Pier caps, deep beams and pile caps, with sloped chords, several bearing lines and pedestals
Input
Cap geometry, bearing locations and loads, materials, supports and reinforcement, typed in or imported from Excel
Output
Reactions, member forces, D/C ratios, reinforcement design, typical section, a PDF calc package, and SAP2000 .s2k and Excel exports
STMSmartDesign · demo model
STMSmartDesign live preview: a strut-and-tie truss for a deep beam with bearing loads on top, struts dashed in amber, ties solid in blue, and the force in every member.
The truss with the force in every member. Struts are dashed, ties are solid.

Why I built these

Not every check warrants opening SAP2000 and building a model from scratch.

Ammar Khan Structural and bridge engineer, New Jersey

When I review calculations, I often need a quick answer. Is the camber reasonable? Does the maximum girder moment make sense? I built these tools to speed up my own reviews, and I hope they save other engineers time too.

The tools are aids for qualified engineers. Check every result and apply your own judgment. This website runs no calculations; they happen only inside the tools.
